THE RESPECT GROUP

The Lab Femmes de Cinéma has recently been heavily involved in a working group of cinema professionals to propose measures to combat sexist and sexual violence and harassment (GBV) in the sector.

The group has brought together around twenty professionals, all of whom are members in their own right and work in all areas of the film industry: production, directing, distribution, casting, exhibition, acting, technical professions, press officers, agencies, festivals….

The group met on a weekly basis for more than 6 months, to come up with concrete, detailed proposals aimed at professionals and public authorities, covering every stage in the life cycle of a film.

Le Lab provided the group with the collective intelligence methods we use in our workshops, and played an active part in summarising its work.

This toolkit brings together the results and conclusions of the RESPECT group’s work. It is the group’s contribution to the film industry’s efforts to transform practices and combat violence across the board.

We invite you to read the report, visit the group’s website, or listen to the episode of the Lab podcast dedicated to the conclusions of this work. It’s a sort of audio summary of the RESPECT group’s recommendations and proposals.

This group is part of an earlier global movement to combat violence: its work was triggered by the many people speaking out in the sector and was built to complement all the work already being done by unions and associations.

The Me Too movement began in the film industry and has since spread to society as a whole. The group hopes that its work will inspire professionals in the industry and elsewhere, and that it will contribute to the paradigm shift in the fight against violence that is now needed at all levels of society.
