FEMALE FILM COMPOSER REVELATION AWARD

In 2022, the Arcs Film Festival, the Lab Femmes de Cinéma and the Sacem created the “Female Film Composer Revelation Award” award to highlight female film music composers.

FEMALE FILM COMPOSER REVELATION AWARD

With the creation of this award, there is a dual intention:

  • To reveal and highlight the talent of a female film music composer to the media, professionals and the general public, and thus contribute to the creation of female “role models”;
  • To draw attention to the low number of female film music composers, and the need to work towards greater parity in this sector.

Official statistics – where they exist – bear this out: female film music composers are under-represented and under-funded. In France in 2018, they accounted for just 17% of Sacem members, and on average in Europe between 2016 and 2020, they represent just 9% of film music composers.

The prize is awarded annually at Les Arcs, and the winner is honored at the following year’s Sœurs Jumelles Festival.
